Since November 2011 Richmond YMCA are no longer able to take direct referrals for housing from other agencies, or to take self referrals from young people who are in need of accommodation.
If you are aged 16 25 years old and you are homeless or you are at risk of becoming homeless, there is now a pathway that you must follow to be housed by Richmond YMCA or any other local supported housing provider.
When you find yourself in a homeless situation, or if you feel that you are close to becoming homeless for any reason, you must inform the local council. In this area the best places to go to are Richmondshire Community Office, on Dundas Street, Richmond, or Hambleton District Council Office, Stone Cross, Northallerton.
When you inform the local council they will put you in touch with the correct member of staff to help. It is likely that you will have an interview with this person to talk about the problems you are having and to tell them fully what your current situation is. When this interview has been completed they will make a decision as to what will happen next.
Whether or not you are housed on a temporary basis, or remain at home or with a friend until the next stage, you will be assessed by a member of staff from The Hub. This is a team of people who will look at your situation and what your future needs are, and make a decision based on this as to who they refer you to next. Thats where we come in If you fall into our category of young people then you might be referred to us, or you may be referred to another agency in the area. The key thing to remember is that The Hub team will always refer you to the agency that they think will be able to help you in the best way.
If you click on the link below you can see what the process is, right from start to finish. If you want any more information we are happy to talk to you about it. Contact us and well try and advise you as best we can.
IF YOU NEED HOUSING NOW PLEASE GO TO YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY OFFICE IMMEDIATELY FOR HOUSING SUPPORT.
